An Update

Hi, so I haven't blogged at all this week and not because I was lazy, I just didn't have anything to blog, I thought I'd spare you the pictures of my dog... Here is what my week consisted of..

Monday: I relaxed for awhile, trying to get stuff done on my to-do list but not having all the motivation necessary. Later in the evening I worked out with Sarah, we played tennis! Well we tried. Then I went over to Hannah and Sam's for a little bit and watch Teen Wolf. It was very entertaining. :)

Tuesday: I met with my mentor Val in the morning, then I'm pretty sure I ran some errands of some sort then did more of nothing. I have a horrible short term memory.

Wednesday: I attempted to take some practice senior pictures of Sarah, it was really hot so we gave up. Then we ran some errands and then just chilled out for awhile.

Thursday: When my life gets interesting... I started my internship! I was a little nervous and apprehensive but my first day was quite awesome. I work at SPACES in Cleveland, it's an experimental art gallery. I got to know the gallery and also set up and prepare for the VAN Conference the following two days. VAN stands for Visual Artists Network, it's a national organization made up of different organizations around the country. I don't want to butcher what they do, so look them up! Anyway, every year they a meeting with all of the different organizations and this year SPACES was hosting it. I'm not actually sure why I loved my first day so much, I got to do a lot of hands on stuff which is always the most rewarding to me. I also get to work with a lot of different college students and I love college students! Not just because I am one, but I just love to get to know them and invest in them. The person who oversees the interns is really awesome and laid back. She told the director that I am going to take pictures for them. She didn't ask me, she just told him in hearing distance from me. I didn't mind, I'm so excited to actually get to apply photography to the internship. I think that this internship would have been much more applicable if I was still Fine Art Photography because I get to hear about and meet so many different people in the art world. However, I don't mind because art is still something that interests me and I know that I'll still learn a lot from my experience! All I wanted to do when I got home from work was hang out with my friends, so I did just that! It was a great way to end my lovely day. :)

Across the street from SPACES

Friday: I got to sleep in! Then I headed to SPACES a little bit before 4 to help out with the artists presentations that were going to be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Downtown Cleveland. The presentations were really awesome and interesting. They were all artists from the Cleveland area, it was really neat to see what the artists in this area are doing. (Made me love Cleveland a little bit more) All of the interns and artists and presenters that were there were going out to dinner afterwards. I kind of wanted to but at the same time I had a skype date with my lovely roommate, Meghan. It made me feel super old, like oh this is what people do, go out with their work friends after work. Anyway, tangent. So I came home, pretty exhausted and talked to Meghan!

Saturday: I had to be up early to help out with the VAN meeting being held at SPACES today. I didn't really have to do much but just watch the front. I did learn how to turn on the exhibition today, that was interesting. I headed out a little after lunch time and relaxed until dinner. Then I headed to one of my friend's graduation parties. I knew a good amount of people there, but I was only good friends with a few of them. Being the introvert that I am it was a little awkward seeing people that I used to see all the time but haven't in a very long time. I did however meet this one lady and we talked a bit about what I was studying and she told me that she knew a Pulitzer Prize nominee in this area. I was extremely excited when she asked if I would be interested in meeting him. So hopefully I'll get to pick his brain soon, his name is Ron Kuntz if you want to look him up. Meeting her was also a nice reinforcer that networking and meeting people is important even if it is really difficult for me, another challenge to take on. That's about all for today.

I apologize for the mass of writing and lack of pictures. I'll be better next week!
